Easter

£415.00

‘Easter’ is my response to Easter. It was after going to church in the village on Easter Sunday singing the hymns and thinking about the story.

The Easter story — not as a literal narrative, but as a shifting atmosphere of darkness, faith, rupture, and transcendence. The deep violets and blacks evoke the moment the sky turned dark, while luminous pinks and golds suggest resurrection light breaking through grief and uncertainty.

Layered forms emerge and recede like fragments of memory: the heavy curve of the stone, the enclosed tomb-like shapes, the vertical movement of ascension. The painting moves between weight and release, shadow and radiance, echoing the hymns sung that morning and the timeless rhythm of death, hope, and renewal.

Rather than illustrating Easter directly, I wanted to capture its emotional resonance — the mystery, drama, and quiet promise of transformation.

16 x 20 inches Acrylic on canvas board.

Photographed in natural light. Colours may look a bit different in real life, but have done my best to visually colour match!

Painting is UNFRAMED. If you saw my post on Instagram on framing this – let me know!
